Packed full of intervention ideas for adults who are early communicators

What is on the DVD?

Communication strategies for adults who communicate at unintentional or early intentional levels of communication. This DVD is a sequel to the Triple C – Checklist of Communication Competencies.

Viewers meet 5 adults with little or no speech and limited communication. The DVD presents 3 stages of communication – Unintentional, Intentional Informal and Symbolic. These are further divided into 5 phases introducing:

Michael – who communicates at an unintentional passive level
Sharon – who communicates at an unintentional active level
Kate – who communicates at an intentional informal level
Jeannie – who communicates at basic symbolic level and
Trevor – who communicates at an established symbolic level.

Communication strategies are demonstrated in real life scenarios. The strategies match the individual's skills and needs and can easily be incorporated into every day activities.

Worksheets to accompany the DVD may be found in the Training section (1 – 4) of the InterAACtion manual. Viewers watch Michael, Sharon, Kate, Jeannie and Trevor, and answer questions about their communication skills. The InterAACtion manual has worksheets (to photocopy) and answer sheets for trainers. Simple ideas to support communication are outlined for each scenario.
