About Spectronics

Spectronics has been supporting people across Australia with assistive technology and inclusive learning solutions since 1986.

Founded in Brisbane by occupational therapist Michael O'Leary, Spectronics began with a simple goal: to make emerging assistive technologies from around the world more accessible to people with disability, their families, educators and the professionals who support them.

Over the four decades since, Spectronics has grown to become one of Australia's leading suppliers of assistive technology, special education software and inclusive learning solutions.

Inclusive Technology for Education and Disability

Our focus has always extended beyond simply supplying products. We believe technology is most valuable when it helps people participate, communicate, learn and achieve greater independence.

That's why we describe the solutions we provide as technologies that help create genuine opportunities for inclusion and success in educational, community and everyday settings.

We work with schools, teachers, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, support professionals, organisations, families and technology users throughout Australia. This close connection with the people using and supporting these technologies helps us provide informed advice, practical support and solutions suited to individual needs.

Working with Leading Technology Developers

Spectronics works with assistive technology and education developers and manufacturers from Australia and around the world, including long-standing relationships with many of the companies behind the products we supply.

These relationships give our team direct access to product knowledge, technical information and new developments, while also providing an opportunity to share feedback from Australian users with developers.

Over the years, Spectronics has contributed to the localisation and development of numerous products for Australian and New Zealand users, helping international developers better understand the language, curriculum and accessibility needs of our region.

Supporting More Inclusive Classrooms

One of the most significant changes we have seen over the years has been the increasing use of inclusive and assistive technologies throughout mainstream education.

Tools originally developed to support students with disability or specific learning difficulties are now frequently used to provide flexible ways for a much wider range of students to read, write, communicate and participate in learning.

We are proud to have played a part in that change and remain committed to helping educators, professionals, families and individuals find technology that makes a meaningful difference.

Spectronics Today

In 2026, Spectronics entered a new chapter when the business was acquired by Spectronics Holdings Pty Ltd.

While the ownership of the business has changed, the Spectronics team, knowledge and commitment to our customers remains unchanged.

As we look ahead, our focus is still on finding useful technologies, understanding the people who use them, and providing the advice and support needed to put those technologies to work.
